My peace is worth preserving

It’s Finding Me Friday. Oh yes, my friends, this one is so important right now with the constant news cycle of unpleasant and infuriating things. I’m noticing that my body and spirit take a nose dive after scrolling through social media. My sensitive, empathic, social justice self tenses up in frustration and discomfort. Somedays it’s hard to turn it off, tune it out, and focus on my sense of peace.

Preserving my peace includes processing all the you know what through intuitive art. Processing begins with writing on my canvas what’s coming up for me in the moment - what’s needing to be expressed and released - kind of like an emotional barometer check. From there I choose colors and mark making tools that connect to what I’m feeling, crank the tunes, and away we go. Sometimes easy, sometimes bumpy, sometimes tears, sometimes laughter, sometimes unexpected; but at the end, always peace.

Several European countries are now prescribing art creating and art viewing for healing. Clearly they’re onto something.
