Gotta be me
It’s Finding Me Friday and I’ve got positive self-talk on my mind. Y’all, we don’t do enough of it. As an oldest, Type A, recovering perfectionist, the voice of my inner critic (her name is Beatrice) often has me questioning my abilities and value in this great big world. I have mastered the art of negative self-talk, “Girl, what have you done to yourself - that meno belly has got to go!”, “Girl, what were you thinking when you used those colors together, geesh!”, “Girl, no one is ever gonna buy your work!” Oh ya, and there’s lots more.
With help from my therapist and other holistic healers, over the past few months, I’ve started to change how I talk to and encourage myself - and I’m seeing a big shift in my overall well-being. I have challenged myself to begin each day by looking in the mirror and saying, “Girl, you are beautiful and I love you.” That took some time and willingness to accept and surrender. I went from not wanting to look at my ever-changing middle-aged body, to thanking it for all that it’s seen me through. That act of self-kindness led to cheering myself on to hang an art show within a 60-minute requirement, measuring tape, hammer, hangers and all - YES, queen!
I’m sharing all of this to simply say - how you speak to yourself reverberates into every cell in your body that then informs how you show up for yourself and your work.
So how about interrupting your inner critic and flipping the script with loving self-kindness?
You are beautiful and I love you.
Thank you for showing up for me everyday.
I am so proud of you.
I love how you are prioritizing your self-care.
I saw how hard you worked today - nice job.
It’s ok for you to rest now, you gave it your all and then some.
You are right where you’re supposed to be, keep going.
You are magical.
Just a few more steps forward - you got this!
Thank you spreading joy to everyone you meet.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear how you’re making self-kindness a priority, info@findingmesg.com.
Keep creating.
