Feeling alive
It’s Finding Me Friday. The last couple weeks I’ve been taking art classes to refresh and renew. I’m a curious Gemini and get bored easily (and into more than my fair share of good trouble) if I don’t keep my busy brain engaged. I tend to lean towards classes that incorporate mind, body, and spirit in the practice of art making. With all that is swirling around us these days, I’ve been craving places of calm and peace, where I can actively do nothing more than breathe and play. I found that in my classes with Flora Bowley and Nicholas Wilton.
I moved a bunch of art supplies out of my studio onto our kitchen table, and created art for five days straight with no plan or purpose - only play. It felt so good to simply be, surrounded by paint splatters and oil pastel marks everywhere, and stacks of art explorations scattered across the floor. The spark started to reignite again, and I realized that I feel most alive when I am creating art for pure enjoyment. The feeling that comes from stumbling into happy accidents. The feeling that comes with discovering a new technique. The feeling that comes from standing back and saying, “Wow, I love that!”
What makes you feel most alive?
Keep creating.
